Colleagues:

First, let me say I love People. It's my favorite Time Inc. magazine. Last week's story about the hardships Nicole Kidman has suffered since that terrible Tom Cruise left her was both touching and informative. But, I do have a few suggestions for making the magazine more user-friendly.

1. Emoticons. Everybody loves them. At the end of each story, you could include the appropriate smiley face. If it's a sad story, like Nicole's, it could be a sad face. This would liven things up a little, and before reading the whole story, people could just look at the pictures and check the emoticon. That way, it would be easier to decide which stories to read.

2. Keywords. All features in the magazine should be indexed under certain keywords. Pictures of Carmen Electra, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Love Hewitt could be in the "Babes" section. And stories about celebrities doing good things for society could be listed as "Heroes." This would work perfectly with existing sections such as "Tube," "Screen," and "Song."

3. Buddies. I don't know how this would work, but people love to see the word buddies. I know I have a bunch of people I've never even met on my buddy list. Work this out so "Buddies" appear in each issue, preferably on every page.

4. Chat Rooms. I know People is a print magazine, so the chat rooms won't be nearly as exciting as the lively conversations online. But, maybe you could get a bunch of celebrities together in a chat room. They could each have clever screen names so they wouldn't be identified. They could chat about clothes, movies, current events and their favorite teen divas. I'm sure people would love to read the transcript.

The preceeding suggestions should make People more entertaining and fun for everyone. I know when I bought the company I promised to give you room to operate. But, it would make me very happy to see my changes in the next issue. Until next time.

Keep Up The Good Work,
